Debbie Borg says it’s time to fight fire with fire in dealing with the Humane Society of the United States and other animal rights groups.
Borg is the president of the Nebraska Soybean Association. She has been asked by American Soybean Association leaders to coordinate the group’s efforts to battle the growing animal rights movement. Borg says it’s time to expose HSUS for what it really is.
“Their goal, and all their documents tell us, that they are out to eliminate animal agriculture,” says Borg. “That means that they want us to be a vegan society—no leather shoes, no leather boots and, obviously, no steaks on the table.”
Borg believes a high percentage of those who contribute to HSUS have no idea their dollars are being used to attack animal agriculture.
“And I think when people start understanding what they’re about, the funding we hope will slow down,” says Borg, “because we’ve also done surveying that when people understand what they’re about, they’re not going to support them because they’ve been lied to.”
Borg says it’s crucial that the ag and commodity groups come together in the battle against HSUS. Link
In order to expose HSUS for the radical animal rights groups that they really are, it’s going to require the efforts of farmers and ranchers across the country. It’s also going to require more than just the livestock industry telling the story. Congratulations to Debbie Borg and soybean growers everywhere for realizing that we are all in this together. An attack on livestock producers is an attack on everyone involved in agriculture and it will require a response from everyone if we are to survive.

Do not forget the farmers who own dogs either, guard dogs, household pets, multiple dogs, HSUS is winning the battle using for oppressive laws against dog owners.
Those of us who farm animals and own dogs are in there with you. With more and more farm animals being confiscated along with the dog population it is becomming a frightening happening. More and more warrant less search and seizures are taking place for little to no cause. The animal is taken with no recourse in court and resold through a rescue. All animals are in jepordy!
Good to see you in the fight! As a dog owner (Doberman Pinschers)I am also involved in this fight. We have some of the same goals, such as exposing HSUS for what it is and is not. It is time to take them down! I belong to NAIA, a terrific resource, and am on several internet lists fighting Breed Specific Legislation, Mandatory Spay/Neuter, and other anti-animal/anti-pet ownership legislation. HSUS has been really active this year. We in the dog fancy really have our hands full. Sadly, there are way too many with their heads still in the sand...

The animal rights movement portrays itself simply as a group of people who are concerned with the mistreatment of animals. That's an easy position to sell in America where a large portion of population has pets. However, there is an undercurrent of violence, extremist positions, and even anti-human views that runs through the animal rights movement. People who are giving their money to these groups need to understand that it is used to push an agenda that is intended to severe completely the human animal bond. It is not to save wildlife or to protect domestic animals, but is intended to force this world into a vegan lifestyle severe the use of animals in any form. Their Agenda is clearly stated by Wayne Pacelle the Director of HSUS, “We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding. ...One generation and out. We have no problems with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.”
We need to come together as a large group of agriculture producers, dog breeders, hunters, restaurants, etc. This is not about to stop as they have been terrorizing medical researchers most recently in the US and especially the UK. This group is intent on changing the world to fit their view and they do this by lying and spreading false information about how all domestic animals are treated. They particularly started with companion animals knowing they could engender support for animals that are seen as part of the family and in every case of instituting a new law about dogs they do one of two things. Insert the word livestock instead of dog or cat and the other is warrantless searches coupled with no right to appeal. The concept as taught in their workshops for volunteers is that once these laws are in place they can sue for ownership citing abuse. They define what is abuse and who is the abuser. Farmers everywhere need a freedom to farm act on the federal level if we are to prevent them from taking over this country. They are now in 34 states trying to enact local laws against owning pets or limiting the breeding and owning of pets. These are the laws you need to worry about as they underpin their plan to take over the ownership of livestock. Notice how easily they lied about chickens in California and got the public to do their bidding. We need to fight these laws as they are setting the stage for curbing breeding of any animal not just companion animals by the ways these laws are written.
Glad to see you in this fight as it is not about animal abuse at all, but about making all domesticated animals extinct.
I hope that having the Ag industry get involved will begin to turn the tide. Thank you !!!
Being from Wisconsin, having family members and friends who farm, I'm extremely interested. Also being active in the dog fancy, rescue, showing, I'm interested via that direction.
Question.....have you considered a lawyer getting involved? Getting funds for same?
I'm in touch with a friend who's a lawyer in a large Milwaukee firm. His specialty is Corporate Law, not constitutional or business (agriculture) law but he offered to pu this thinking cap on when he can find the time......the question of $$ hasn't come up yet but it will.
I suppose you've thought of approachng the media? The one that comes to mind is Oprah Winfrey, a dog lover supreme. Of course there are many other shows, Bonnie Hunt is another outspoken dog/animal rights advocate.
I don't live on a farm or ranch, but my sister is a responsible dog breeder and I've almost always had a pet dog for about 60 years. I'm with you!
