Some parents question PETA protest at Pa. school

• PITTSBURGH — Some parents are questioning a protest by People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals outside a Pittsburgh public school.
A person in an elephant costume with a bloody forehead bandage handed out coloring books as students left Colfax Elementary School on Tuesday. The protest targets the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus coming to town next month.
Parent Sabrina Weihrauch says she generally supports PETA, but doesn't believe in demonstrating outside a school.
PETA spokeswoman Virginia Fort says the stunt "gently let children know" how circus animals are treated. The circus says its animals aren't mistreated.
Seventy-two-year-old Anne Myrick tried to shoo students away from the protest, telling the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "They're hustling little kids." Link
This is pretty standard fare for PETA but I thought I’d let all of you know a little more about Virginia Fort. She is PETA’s full time paid protester. She travels across the country setting up these demonstrations. I was able to visit with her when they were in Rapid City last November. At that protest they were trying to convince people that all dairy cows are abused by the farmers that own them. In part of our discussions with Ms. Fort we asked her what should be done with all of the pasture land that cows are grazing on since they want animal agriculture eliminated. Her response was that we should farm it. Another rancher standing nearby asked if she really thought ripping up native prairie in a semi-arid climate was a good idea. She said we might as well since the cows are out there pooping on it anyhow. WHAT?? I asked her if I could video her saying that response again and she refused. Obviously this wouldn’t be the best use of the land but her idea is that if anything is “pooping” on the land it is being destroyed. That’s PETA mentality for you.
The other main point to take home from this is that there aren’t protests from local people taking place. PETA has to hire employees to do this for them. For the most part it’s the same few people at every PETA protest.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The circus is about to roll into town but not everyone's rolling out the welcome mat.
A group that fights for animals' rights delivered an eye-opening message to school children in Buffalo on Tuesday.
Right at dismissal time outside of Buffalo Elementary School of Technology, a representative of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and an elephant character with a bloody bandage handed out coloring books that said "Animals belong in the jungle" and "We don't support elephants in circuses".
"We're just out here letting people know, animals don't like to be locked up or chained. They wanna be with their Mommy, just like you wanna be with your Mommy," said Virginia Fort from PETA.

If PETA claims that the circus elephants want to be in the jungle with their mommy, then doesn’t that same logic hold true about pets? If PETA had any intellectual honesty (which we know they don’t have), they would have also been attacking these children for having pets and saying that dogs and cats want to be with their mommy, and they belong outside in the wild, not living in a house. These people are shameless in their attempts to attack children with their propaganda.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Some parents say a PETA protest at a Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus in Cabarrus County went too far by including a 12-year-old girl in a cage.
The girl volunteered and her mother gave permission.
PETA says it represents the suffering animals encounter traveling with the circus.
Circus production manager Jason Gibson says he’s seen hundreds of PETA protests in his 11 years with the circus.
"This is the first time I've seen anything like this,” Gibson said. "It's very disturbing to see it like that." Read More
Locking up a small child in a cage would normally get you a jail sentence, but this goes to show you that PETA is more concerned about animals than they are people and especially children. I have said many times that human welfare should come first, but this group has long passed any reasonable thought and will continue to put animals above your children.

What bills itself as the 'Greatest Show on Earth' is expected to draw some protest when it stops in the city next month.
A local group is planning to take part in a national PETA campaign against the Shrine Circus and the use of animals in their shows and so far, over 120 members have joined a local Facebook group to 'fight the circus'. The Thunder Bay chapter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says its planning a protest calling for a ban on the use of animals in such shows.
However Shriner Andy Anderson, also known as Wrinkles the Clown, says he has never seen the animals harmed in any way and Anderson has been clowning since 1948. He's not taking the group seriously adding there is no truth to what they are saying.
Anderson says the circus has veterinarians that travel with them and animals are an important part of the show. The local stop has raised more than $80,000 each year for the Shriner's hospital for children. Read More
PETA has once again put animals above the welfare of children. The Shrine circus is a major fundraiser for their hospitals, which treat sick children at little or no cost. Yet PETA is willing to throw that all away because it thinks that these animals are mistreated. Children’s welfare should be more important than protesting a circus.
